Here’s your chance to learn about The Allure of Edible Flowers during Seasonal Wisdom’s upcoming talk at the 25th Annual Southern California Spring Garden Show at South Coast Plaza. It’s an honor to join a number of prestigious garden speakers during this fun gardening event, April 24-27, 2014. Check it out! (Photo of violets by Rebecca Lee/Flickr)
The ancient Romans did it. So did Thomas Jefferson at Monticello, and Queen Elizabeth I in the 16th century. Eating flowers isn’t a foodie trend. History shows it’s a culinary tradition that’s been enjoyed for a very long time. Here’s a chive flower dip from Isabel Gomes of Isabel Lawrence Photographers.
Along with providing eye-opening historical facts, this lively presentation will show how to grow, harvest and enjoy eight popular edible flowers. Many of these plants are probably growing in your garden right now. You’ll also get serving ideas and safety advice for eating edible flowers safely. Before you leave, you’ll be amazed how easily these flowers can enhance your meals, such as these colorful pansy petals in this heirloom mesclun mix.
